Funeral services for Carl Egland were held last Saturday, 1:30 at the Becker Funeral home and 2:00 at Bethesda Lutheran church, with the Rev. I.B. Sorenson officiating. A male quartet sang at the service accompanied by Mrs. Harry Harmon. Members of the quartet were: Dr. L.M. Jacobson, Raymond Johnson, the Rev. I.B. Sorenson and A.E. Kalseim.
Mr. Egland passed away early Wednesday morning, January 27, 1954, at the Hamilton County Public hospital at Webster City, where he had been a patient for 17 days. Death was due to stroke.
Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers: Stanley Egland, Glen Egland, Franklin Egland, Leon Stark, John Stark, Kenneth Egland, Perry Richeson and Russell Barr. Honorary pallbearers were: Joel Hanson, Iver Iverson, Casper Stenberg, Henry Askland, Oscar Langeland and C.A. Streuber.
Carl Egland, son of Knute and Marie Egland, was born November 22, 1870 at Randall, Iowa and died January 27, 1954, at Webster City, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 5 days. He lived in the Randall community for about 30 years and then moved to Jewell.
On May 21, 1895, he was married to Christina Olson at Randall. To this union, three children were born, two of whom survive with his wife. They are Casper of Radcliffe, and Mrs. Myrtle Stark of Boone. He is also survived by one brother, Pete, of Radcliffe; one sister, Martha Olson, of Elmore, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. One son, Leonard, preceded him in death.
Mr. Egland was engaged in the Meat Market business and in farming for 36 years, retiring 11 years ago.
He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran church, and at one time served as trustee of the church.
