Knut (Knud, Knute) Egland was born August 29, 1825 at Aardal, Norway.

He died June 24, 1893 at Randall, Iowa.

He married Marie (Gjerde) Egland. They came from Aardal, Norway in 1849 and settled at Ottawa, Illinois. They lived there seven years then moved to Hamilton County, Iowa in 1857. Their first two children were born in Illinois, Anna Marie (Annie) July 19, 1853 and Ira on August 2, 1856.

Knut started the first blacksmith shop in Randall in 1882. It was moved from the farmstead to town. He also was a farmer.

They had the following children:
Anna Marie (known as Annie) b. July 19, 1853; Ira b. Aug 2, 1856; Jacob born about 1858, died in infancy; Marie (Mary) b. Nov. 11, 1859; Julia b. Nov. 11, 1859, twin to Marie (Mary) died same day; Jacob b. Nov. 1, 1861; Julie b. March 30, 1865; Peder Henry b. August 30, 1866; Ana Isabelle (known as Belle) b. February 3, 1869; Karl John b. November 22, 1870; Martha Sesile b. Oct. 22, 1872.

He and his wife are buried in the Mamrelund Cemetery, 3 miles east and 1/2 mile north of Randall.
