The surrounding community was saddened Monday forenoon, when word was passed around that Waldo Berlin Egland had passed away, Monday forenoon, Jan. 19, 1925. Death came following an illness of several weeks of heart trouble. For some time Waldo seemed to be steadily improving and it came as a shock to his parents and friends as both doctors and parents had hopes for his recovery, and for eight days he had been up and around the house. However, Saturday evening he took a sudden change for the worst and gradually sank until death claimed him Monday forenoon.

Father and mother, sister and pastor were with him as the angel of death claimed him. A few hours before his death Waldo realized that he would go quietly asleep and awaken on the Heavenly shore. Rev. Paulsrud was with him until the end and his last words to his parents and pastor and sister were "Jesus is near."

Waldo was the only son of a family of six children. He was born to Peder and Carrie Egland on May 24, 1909, at Randall and passed away at the home of his parents at Randall, Jan. 19, 1925, at the age of 15 years, 7 months and 25 days. He leaves to mourn, his father and mother, five sisters, namely, Stella and Rozella at home, Mrs. Holly Larson of Malcom, Mrs. H.C. Spray of Webster City and Mrs. A.R. Thompson of Randall.

In the year of 1909 he was baptized in the Elim Lutheran church by Rev. G.O. Paulsrud. His sponsors were Mrs. Ben Thorsdahl, Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Hanson and Mrs. George Anfinson. He was confirmed in the year 1923. He was converted in January, 1924, and worked faithfully among those of his own age to bring them to Jesus.

His death was truly a heart breaking blow to his parents and sisters. The deceased was of a very cheerful disposition and had many friends.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon conducted at the paternal home at 1:30 and at 2:00 o'clock at Elim Lutheran church by Rev. G.O. Paulsrud. The following music was given: Duet by Rev. and Mrs. Nordsletten of Jewell, solo by Miss Adeline Paulsrud, song by the Randall choir at the close of the service. Rev. Pierson of Ames gave a few remarks. The body was laid to rest in Mount Olive cemetery.
