Funeral services for Mrs. P.K. Egland were held Sunday afternoon at Elim Lutheran church in Randall, with the Rev. A.J. Bringle officiating. The large congregation of relatives and friends who gathered for the service, and the beautiful floral offerings attested to the love and esteem in which this friendly woman was held.
Carrie Egland, daughter of Caroline and Charles Fender, was born in Hamilton county, Iowa, Sept. 20, 1877 and passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 7:15 p.m. at her home in Randall, Iowa at the age of 66 years and 23 days.
On May 8, 1899, she was united in marriage to Peder Egland at Jewell, Iowa, by Rev. C.J. Eastvold. To this union six children were born, one son and five daughters. The son, Waldo, preceded her in death in 1925, at the age of 16 years.
She is survived by her husband and daughters: Mrs. Holly Larson, Malcomb, Iowa, Mrs. Hubert Spray, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Arnie Thompson, Blairsburg, Ia., Mrs. Herman Christianson and Mrs. Ernest Houck of Radcliffe, Iowa. Twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive her.
Her life was spent in this community. In 1923 she became a member of the Elim Lutheran church of which she was a faithful attendant as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. Egland was especially well known through the county through her work as correspondent for many newspapers in the territory. For over a quarter of a century she devoted much of her time to gathering news from the Randall community and was happy at this task. She was a talented correspondent, and will be missed by the people who read her newsy letters.
Burial was made at Mt. Olive cemetery at Randall.
