Peder Henry Egland was born August 30, 1866, on the old Egland homestead, 2 miles northeast of Randall, Iowa. He passed away March 4, 1962 at the hospital in Eldora, Iowa, where he had been a patient for 5 months. He was 95 years, 6 months and 4 days old. His parents were Knute and Marie Egland.
He was united in marriage May 8, 1899, to Carrie Fender by Rev. P.J. Eastvold at Jewell, Iowa. To this union, 6 children were born. She preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 1943. One son, Waldo, also preceded him on Jan. 19, 1925, as did his parents and 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Aanalum. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Radcliffe, Iowa.
On November 12, 1948 at Webster City, Iowa he was united in marriage to Julia Ostlund by Rev. Stewart. She survives him. Also surviving are 5 daughters: Mrs. Holly (Gertrude) Larson, Brainerd, Minn., Mrs. Hubert (Sylvana) Spray, Milaukee, Wis., Mrs. Arnie (Verda) Thompson, Albert Lea, Minn., Mrs. Herman (Stella) Christianson, Radcliffe; and Mrs. Ernest (Rozella) Houck of Radcliffe. Also 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews.
He lived in Randall until 1943 when he moved to Radcliffe.
Services were held at Our Saviors Lutheran church March 7, 1962 at 2 o'clock with Rev. Clair and Rev. Nils Klungtvedt in charge.
Singers were C.T. Pearson and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Eike.
Pallbearers were his grandsons: Paul and Gary Houck, Kenneth and Durwood Thompson, Hollis Larson and Carroll Blome. Burial was in the Randall cemetery.
