Roy John Ahrens, 78, longtime Ellsworth area resident, died Friday afternoon at the Story City Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for four days.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth with the Rev. R.D. Ehlers officiating. Burial will be at Homewood cemetery in Ellsworth. The body will lie in state at the Becker Funeral home until 1 p.m. when it will be taken to the church.

Roy John Ahrens was born Nov. 17, 1894 at Buffalo Center, the son of Henry and Mary Lightfield Ahrens. He had resided the past 74 years in the Ellsworth community.

On July 5, 1924, he was married to Vallie Knutson at Fairmont, Minn. He worked as a lineman for the Ellsworth Cooperative Telephone Co. for 41 years, retiring 13 years ago.

A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion and had served as a town councilman at Ellsworth. He also was a member of the Ellsworth fire department and the Izaak Walton League.

Survivors include his wife; five sisters, Mrs. Laura Blair of Ellsworth, Mrs. Amelia Miller of Los Angeles, Mrs. Luella Ratliff of Lovelace, Colo., Mrs. Vera Jewell of Orange, Calif., and Mrs. Cora Ennis of Laurens, Iowa, and one brother, Arthur Ahrens of Ellsworth.
