JEWELL - Clara Detje, 87, longtime Ellsworth resident, died yesterday at the Boone County hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. at the Becker Funeral home with the Rev. Otto Zwanziger officiating and with burial in the Greenwood cemetery east of Ellsworth.

Clara Sogard, daughter of Simon and Annie Larson Sogard, was born Oct. 3, 1897 at Webster City, and the family moved to Ellsworth when she was five years old. The family returned to Webster City where she was graduated from Webster City high school with the class of 1916.

She worked for the Des Moines Register and Tribune after graduation.

In 1934 she was married to Ernest Detje at Webster City, and the family lived at Alta Vista and Ames, before returning to Ellsworth.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by 13 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Henry, Silas and Harold Sogard and two sisters, Selma Shade and Mable Manning.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church at Ellsworth.
