JEWELL - Mrs. Harold Sogard, 70, of Ellsworth, died at 1 a.m. today at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where she had been a patient for seven weeks.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth with the Rev. Harvey Sigurdson officiating and with burial in Greenwood cemetery at Ellsworth. The body will lie in state at the Becker Funeral home until 1 p.m.

Melva Porter, was born June 30, 1904 at Jewell, the daughter of Melvin and Mary Johnson Porter. She was graduated from Jewell high school.

On June 14, 1924, she was married to Harold Sogard at Des Moines.

She was a clerk at the Thoreson Grocery store for many years but more recently had served as librarian at Ellsworth.

She is survived by her husband; 12 children, Robert of Burlington, Jack of Hampton, Donald of Florida, Dean of Jewell, Gail of Wichita Falls, Texas, Allyn of Webb, Iowa, Ramon of Ellsworth and Gary, Oslo, Norway, Mrs. Marilyn Knutson, Litchfield, Ill., Mrs. Kathryn Miner of Des Moines, Marjorie Sumberg of Denver, Colo. and Ann Thoreson of Cincinnati; her step-mother, Mrs. Amy Porter, Charles City, her sisters Mrs. Ethelda Hanson of Jewell and Mrs. Kathryn Sheldahl of Aurora, Ill. one brother, James Porter of Norman, Oklahoma, and one step-sister, Mrs. Shirley Harmon of Charles City, and 35 grandchildren.
