ELLSWORTH - Silas Sogard, 80, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Soldiers Home in Marshalltown where he had been a resident since 1955 and in the hospital for four years.

There will be no funeral service as the body was willed to the University of Iowa School of Medicine.

Mr. Sogard was the son of the late Simon and Anna Larson Sogard and born June 5th, 1893 near here. He was raised in the Ellsworth community and was a graduate of the Ellsworth high school with the class of 1911. He was a painter until he went to the Home.

He was a World War I Veteran and served at Fort Miley, Calif., in the Coast Guard for the duration of the War. He was a member of the Glick Post of the American Legion.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Manning of Hubbard, Mrs. Selma Shade of Ellsworth, Mrs. Clara Detje of Ames and one brother, Harold of Ellsworth.
