Mrs. Selma Shade, 83, of Ellsworth died Friday evening at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames where she had been a patient for a week.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with the Rev. Harvey Sigurdson officiating. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery near Ellsworth.

She was born March 29, 1895 at Ellsworth, the daughter of Simon and Anna Larson Sogard. The family lived in Hubbard and a short while in Des Moines and then returned to Ellsworth. She graduated from Ellsworth schools and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls.

She was a school teacher and a former librarian. She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth and the TLCW of the church, as well as the women's project service group. She also belonged to the Historical Society and was a board member of the public library.

On May 12, 1914 she was married to Merle Shade at Webster City. They had one son, Don, who now lives in Yucca Valley, Calif., with his wife, Julia. Mrs. Shade is also survived by two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mabel Manning of Bethany Manor in Story City and Clara Detje of Ellsworth.
