ELLSWORTH - Merle Shade, 76, died Thursday morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient for eight weeks.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth with the Boeke-Berguson funeral home of Hubbard in charge. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery near Ellsworth. The Rev. R. D. Ehlers will officiate.

Mr. Shade was born near Hubbard Jan. 19, 1894. He had lived in Hubbard and Ellsworth most of his life, having resided in Ellsworth for 35 years.

He was married Nov. 12, 1914 to Selma Sogard of Ellsworth, and the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1964.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Donald Shade of Ventura, Calif.; two grandchildren, Vincent Shade, with the naval intelligence headquarters at Ford Island, Honolulu, and Susan Shade, Ventura, and one sister, Mrs. Grace Rockwell of Mountain Home, Ark.

He engaged in the painting and interior decorating trade and also did refrigeration work.
