Jewell - Funeral services for Gustav Thoreson, 92, who died at his home here yesterday morning, will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. at the Jewell Lutheran church, with Fleenor's in charge.

The Rev. Carl Opsahl will officiate, and burial will be made in the Jewell cemetery.

Mr. Thoreson was a retired farmer and livestock raiser and was prominent in Jewell political circles for many years. He served as Ellsworth township assessor for 17 years and was also councilman and held many other offices of trust during his long residence in this community.

He was born in Norway and came to the United States in 1869, locating in Lee, Ill. From there he moved to Hamilton county in 1874, locating on a farm near Jewell. He moved into Jewell in 1895, and since lived there. He had been bedfast for five months, but had been in failing health for about two years.

Death was caused by a gland ailment and complications incident to old age.

He leave his wife, Mrs. Anna Thoreson, a son, Carl J., of Ellsworth, and two daughters, Mrs. Bert (Hattie) Reade, and Mrs. Thea M. Bolt, of Jewell. There are 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends.

[Gustav was the son of John and Anna Thoreson. He was born March 19, 1848 near Oslo Norway and died at Jewell, Iowa June 18, 1940.

He married Anna Egland at Story City, Iowa April 8, 1875. Five children were born to this union. One daughter died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Anna Funk, died 7 years ago.
