Daily Freeman Journal, Tuesday, June 18, 1940

Mrs. Jessie Ambrose, 80, died at 4:50 p.m. yesterday at the home of her son, George, 1003 Third street, where she had made her home the past four years.

Death was caused by complications incident to old age. She had been in failing health two years and bedfast the past six weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Foster funeral home, with the Rev. J. J. Share, Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in Graceland cemetery.

Jessie Frances Mahan, daughter of Russell and Evelyn Mahan, was born Sept. 5, 1859, in Lexington, Ill., where she grew to young womanhood. She was married to George Ambrose May 27, 1877, and they lived in Lexington until 1894 when they moved to Iowa, locating on a farm north of Webster City.

Her husband died during the flu epidemic in November, 1918, and a son, William Charles, died 10 days later. She moved to Webster City and bought the house at 533 Division street where she had lived until her health began to fail. Her son, Bernie, now lives in her house.

She was a member of the Methodist church. She leaves four sons and two daughters; Bernie and Harry, this city; Walter, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Hazel Lindsay, Williams; Mrs. Ora Lindsay, Davenport; George, this city. There are 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother, Fred Mahan, of Oklahoma, and a sister, Mrs. Mae Koehler, of Texas.
