Wendell R. Weidlein, 84, Webster City, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002 at Hamilton Hospital. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m at the Church of Christ with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. There will be no visitation. Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wendell Rowan Weidlein, son of Boyd and Hazell Rowan Weidlein, was born Dec 11, 1918 at Webster City. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. Wendell pursued his education at Webster City Junior College, graduating in 1938. Following his education, he worked as a surveyor for the Highway Department for two years. On July 21, 1940, he married Opal Irene Nelson at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. The couple farmed north of Highview for many years, moving to Webster City in 1977. Opal died March 9, 2002.

Mr. Weidlein is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Beth Weidlein, Hampton, VA , Charles Weidlein of Webster City; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Opal, he was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, Izaak Walton League, National Rifle Association, and Acacia Lodge #176, A.F. & A.M of Webster City. For many years, Wendell's hobby was a HAM Radio Operator. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and educating the public especially the youth in outdoor activities. In lieu of flowers, Wendell has requested that memorials be given to the Church of Christ, or a charity of your choice.
