R. M. (Dick) Rhodes, 77, longtime resident of Webster City, died Saturday afternoon at the Hamilton County hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. George Eddy officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

Richard M. Rhodes, son of Frederick and Margaret Rhodes, was born Dec. 17, 1889, in England. He received his schooling in that country, coming to the United States when he was 18 years old and locating in Washington.

When he was 25 years old, he joined the Canadian army and was stationed in Canada. He was united in marriage June 5, 1916, to Wynnie G. Zitterell of Webster City at Winnepeg, Canada, and following his discharge from the service the couple resided at Spokane, Wash., for six months before moving to Webster City.

Mr. Rhodes was employed for several years at the former Northwestern Tile Plant in Webster City and later was employed as parts manager for the Chevrolet garage here for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife and six children, Mrs. Ron (Harriett) Isaacson, Webster City, James N. Rhodes, Des Plaines, Ill., Dudley W. Rhodes, Spokane, Wash., Paul Rhodes, Waterloo, Msgt. Sgt. Francis M. Rhodes, stationed with the Air Force in Turkey, and a chosen daughter, Pamela Rae Rhodes, Webster City, and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Neil, who died in infancy; another son, Richard Roderick, who died at the age of six; by his parents and three brothers.

Mr. Rhodes was a member of the Church of England.
