Guy Stebbins Dies at 80
Guy Stebbins, 80, longtime Webster City resident, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge. He had been a patient there since March 29, but had been in failing health all winter.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. M.V. Chastain officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Guy Stebbins, son of Jabez and Sarah Stebbins, was born Jan. 7, 1873 on a farm near Webster City. He was reared and educated in the Webster City community and was employed as a maintenance man with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. until 1938 until his retirement [sic].
He was united in marriage Dec. 18, 1898 to Miss Josie Nelson. With the exception of two years spent at Mason City, they had always made their home in Webster City.
He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter: Ralph Stebbins of Red Oak and Mrs. Gertrude Newman of Webster City; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Stebbins was a member of the Modern Woodmen and held a life membersiop [sic] in the Telephone Pioneers of America organization.
A kindly, friendly individual, Mr. Stebbins was a very conscientious worker in everything he did. He had made many close friends during his long residence in this community (Daily Freeman Journal, 8 Apr 1953, 1).
