Mary Desmond, 86, Greeley, Colo., died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the Bonell Good Samaritan Center in Greeley. Mrs. Desmond was cremated. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the First Congregational Church in Webster City with Rev. James Buffington officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home.

Mary Elinor Hall, daughter of Forest and Lorene Quackenbush Hall, was born Nov. 18, 1913 at Webster City. She graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Grinnell College, receiving a B.A. in language. She taught in elementary schools, beginning in 1933 at North school, where she was also principal. On June 24, 1950, she married Richard Desmond at Webster City. From 1952-1964, she worked in her home. In 1964, she returned to teaching, first at Pleasant View then Hilltop. She retired in 1980. Mr. Desmond died March 9, 1997. She moved to Greeley in April, 2000.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Boak and Brenda Desmond, Evans, CO., grandchildren, Kim, Forest, James and Luke Desmond; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John O. Hall, and sister, Helen Hall.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Travel Club, PEO, a former Delta Kappa Gamma member, and Retired Teachers.
