Richard Desmond, 83, Webster City, died March 9, 1997, at his home. The body was cremated. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Father John Walsh officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. A scripture service will be held at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home.

Richard Barrett Desmond, son of Dr. Thomas and Anna Kelly Desmond, was born Nov. 12, 1913, in Webster City. He attended Webster City schools, Webster City Junior College and Drake Law School. On June 24, 1950, he married Mary Hall in Webster City. He was employed as an attorney for the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in Washington, D.C., for 10 years. They moved to Webster City, where he was a trust officer at First State Bank. He retired in 1978 and continued to reside in Webster City.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Boak and Brenda Desmond, Fort Collins, Colo.; grandchildren, Kim, Forest and James Desmond; niece, Bridgett Wescott; and nephews, Anthony and Michael King. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas and Jack Desmond; sisters, Helen D. King and Catherine D. Quintus.
