George T. Shanley, Webster City's postmaster for the past 32-years, died suddenly Friday afternoon at about 2:30 at the Hamilton County hospital where he had been a patient for one day. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday morning at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church with the very Rev. Father B. G. Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Catholic cemetery at Webster City. Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this evening at the Foster Funeral home and again at 8 o'clock Sunday evening at the funeral home.

George T. Shanley, son of Patrick L. and Mary Torpey Shanley, was born May 23, 1903 at Varina, Iowa. The family moved to Fonda, Iowa, later where his father was associated with the Shell Lumber Co. Later the family moved to Minneapolis where the elder Mr. Shanley was with the main office of the Shell Lumber Co. Following the death of his father, the family moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where Mr. Shanley attended Sacred Heart high school. He was later a graduate of Gates Business college in Waterloo. He then came to Webster City and was associated with the Crosley Investment Co. for a number of years.

During the first term of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, he was appointed postmaster of Webster City on March 4, 1936.

He was united in marriage in 1941 to Irene Elizabeth Geischecker of Livermore, Iowa, and the couple had always made their home in this city.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Mary Kay) Rhodes of Des Moines; and one brother, Phil L. Shanley of Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Shanley was a member of the fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus and of the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He was just recently
honored with a 25-year membership award by the local Knights. He was also a member of the Webster City Elks lodge and was a past exalted ruler of the local Elks lodge.

Mr. Shanley was a member of the St Thomas Aquinas Catholic church.
