Florence Ptacek, 86, Webster City, died Aug. 7, 1995, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Congregational Church, with Rev. Jeff Palmer officiating. Private committal services will be held at a later date. Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Whelan, daughter of Matthew and Mabel Thomas Whelan, was born March 4, 1909, at Billings, Okla. She received her education in Billings. She received her B.A. from Rockford College in Rockford, Ill. in 1929. She received her master's in social work at Case Western Reserve in 1933. She was then employed in Cleveland, Ohio, Atlanta, Ga. and Springfield, Mass. On Sept. 5, 1937, she married Joseph Lester Ptacek in Enid, Okla. The couple resided in Council Grove, Kan. for five years. They moved to Webster City in 1941. For several years, she had been a volunteer at the Hamilton County Care Facility.

She is survived by her husband Joseph Ptacek. son and daughter-in-law John and Linda Ptacek, Nevada, daughter Susan Ptacek, Arlington, Va., daughter-in-law Judy Ptacek Rush, Des Moines, grandchildren Jill Ptacek, J.T Ptacek, Jackie Ptacek, Elizabeth Ptacek and Dawn Larabee, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Peter Ptacek; her parents, three brothers, and one sister.

She was a member of the Mental Health Association, the J E Chapter of P E.O. and the League of Women Voters. She was a former Cub Scout and Girl Scout volunteer. She was a board member of the Kendall Young Library for several years, a member of the Mental Health Board and a future volunteer of the Nurses of America.

Memorials may be given to the Hamilton County Hospice, Meals on Wheels, or the First Congregational Church.
