Mrs. H. B. [Mary Egland] Hanson was born Nov. 11, 1859 and died at her home in Randall, Jan. 9, 1937, at the age of 77 years, 1 mo. and 29 days.

In 1892 the Hansons joined the Elim Lutheran church at Randall, in which church their children have been baptized and confirmed. In this church Mrs. Hanson has been an active member. She was a member of the early ladies aid society in which she was very much interested until her health began to fail. Mrs. Hanson was a woman with a kind heart, and many are they who remember her many kind deeds. For many years she has been a faithful follower of her Savior, and as her illness was prolonged over a number of years, she was drawn closer and closer to her Lord. Of late she would repeat over and over again, "How long must I wait before the Lord comes to take me home?"

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 13 at 1:30 at the home and two o'clock at Elim Lutheran church. Her pastor, Rev. G.O. Paulsrud, officiated. Pall bearers were John and Thomas Larson, J.S. Jacobson, Pete Moe, A.C. Matson and Halver Okland. At the church Ted Quam sang a solo and a duet was sung by Mrs. Benj. Anderson and Ted Quam. The mixed quartet, Mrs. P.G. Pederson, Mrs. Clarence Larson, J.H. Brekken and S.J. Teigland also sang. Burial was made in Mt. Olive cemetery. The Randall ladies aid gave $5 to the Mission, and Randall and community gave $10, besides flowers, to the parochial school in her memory.

Mrs. Hanson belonged to one of the pioneer families in this part of the county. She was the third in line of 10 children born to Knut and Marie Egland, who came from Aardal, Norway, in 1849 and settled at Ottawa, Ill. At this place two of their oldest children were born. The Eglands lived at Ottawa about seven years, after which they moved to Hamilton county, Ia. in 1857. They belonged to the second colony that left Illinois for Iowa. The first colony came in 1856.

The Eglands first home was three miles southeast of Randall, near the old Aaboe place, or where Theo Carpenter now lives. At this place Mrs. Hanson was born. Later on the Egland family moved to their homestead three miles northeast of Randall, what is known today as the Weltha farm.

Mrs. Hanson was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Amlund in the St. Petri church at Story City. Nov. 12, 1885 at Minneapolis, Minn., she was united in marriage to H.B. Hanson. They took up their residence at Randall, where Mr. Hanson has been engaged in the harness and oil business for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Hanson became the parents of eight children. Of these five have preceded the mother in death. They are, Wilmer, died Jan. 1, 1927; Mrs. Mollie Powers died Aug. 13, 1932; Melvin died Mar. 20, 1936; Raymon died June 11, 1936; Mrs. Edna Thompson died Dec. 2, 1936. The children who survive and who, with their father, mourn the passing of a dear mother and wife, are Mrs. Wm. Anderson of Richmond, Ca., Mrs. Ray Anderson and Mrs. Erma Paggett, both of Randall. She also leaves 19 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Gus Thoreson of Jewell and Mrs. Pete Olson of Elmore, Minn.; three brothers, Carl Egland of Jewell, P.K. Egland and Jake Egland of Randall.
