Mrs. Grant Kent, 78, died at 1:55 p.m. Thursday one mile north of Stanhope. She had been in poor health for several months but more seriously ill the past two weeks.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30 at the Methodist church in Stanhope, preceded by a brief service at 2 p.m. at the family home. Rev. Cecil Ashton of Nemaha, Iowa, will officiate with burial being made on the family lot in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope. Foster’s is in charge of services.

Minnie Dell East, daughter of William and Margaret East, was born Nov. 12, 1870, in Green county, Indiana. At the age of five, she moved with her parents to Iowa, locating on a farm near Stanhope. She was educated in the schools of Stanhope.

Feb. 22, 1892, she was united in marriage to Ulysses S. Grant Kent, and the family had always made its home in the Stanhope community. Mr. Kent preceded her in death about two weeks ago, April 22.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd, who died at the age of three months; by two daughters, Madge, who died at the age of 10, and Mrs. Ruth Buechler; also by her parents, one sister and two brothers. She is survived by one son, and one daughter, Audley Kent of Ankeny, and Mrs. Marion (Lila) Hendrickson of Jewell; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kent is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Harry Davis of Stanhope, Mrs. Mark Bishop of Webster City, and Mrs. F. J. Sanders of Johnston Station, Iowa.

She was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a member of the Methodist church at Stanhope. She was a longtime member of the ladies aid of the church and was active in all phases of church work as long as her health permitted. Her family and home were her greatest happiness and her children and grandchildren will remember and treasure her love and kindness. A loving mother, she will not only be missed by her immediate family, but also by her neighbors and friends who knew her as a friendly, generous woman.
