Ulysses S. Grant Kent, 79, died suddenly at 8 o’clock last night [Friday, April 22, 1949] at his home, one mile north of Stanhope, following a stroke which occurred the day before.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday at the Methodist church in Stanhope, preceded by a brief service at 1:30 p.m. at the Kent home for the immediate family of brothers and sisters. Rev. Cecil Ashton of Nemaha, Iowa, will officiate in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope. Foster’s funeral home is in charge of services.

Ulysses S. Grant Kent, son of George and Margaret Kent, who were early pioneers in Hamilton county, was born Sept. 8, 1869 on a farm northwest of Stanhope. His entire life was spent in that community.

He was united in marriage Feb. 22, 1892 to Minnie Dell East. Last February, Mr. and Mrs. Kent observed their 57th wedding anniversary.

He was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd, who died at the age of three months; by two daughters, Madge, who died at the age of 10, and Mrs. Ruth Buechler, and also by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Albert Smith.

Mr. Kent is survived by his wife, one son, Audley of Ankeny, and one daughter, Mrs. Marion (Lila) Hendrickson of Jewell. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a member of the Methodist church of Stanhope.

Widely known because of his long residence in Hamilton county, Mr. Kent will be greatly missed by his many longtime friends and acquaintances as well as by members of the immediate family.
