Obituary- Dr. Tedrow
James B. Tedrow was born May 20, 1856, in Glade, Summerset county, Penn., and died at Williams, Ia., March 4, 1918, of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was one of ten children and grew up on the farm attending district school and later teaching it.
At the age of 21 he entered Mt. Union College, Alliance, Ohio, and took a Liberal Arts Course, graduating in 1882. During this same year he entered the medical department of Ann Arbor University and graduated from there in 1886. During his vacations he studied with a Dr. Gardner of Glade, and upon his graduation in 1866 as valedictorian of a class of 83, he was well prepared to take up his life work. Sept. 8, 1886, he came to Williams, and found the need of a physician here so great that he decided to locate permanently and here he has remained ever since. The death of Dr. Tedrow marks the passing of the third physician whose whole professional career was begun and ended in Williams. Dr. Robertson and Dr. M. J. O’Connor having both shared this experience with Dr. Tedrow.
In the early days of Dr. Tedrow’s career here, there were no good roads and no automobiles. The long drives had to be behind horses, over almost impassable roads at certain seasons but he went through them -- ---the closing hours of some neighbor’s life or to usher in some new life that has ----while grown into sturdy young manhood or womanhood. --- who pride yourself tht you always “paid your bills, “ do you realize that there is some service that cannot be measured in terms of dollars. Such service as this does the doctor give, toho long drives through the cold or rain, the sleepless nights, the an----as a life hangs fraily by a thread- service such as this is – unto the service that a mother gives- and is never paid for, except as we spend ourselves in turn for another.
June 4, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Nellie E. Dalby, of …., Ia, and to this union was born one child, a son, Claire DeWitt (?), of Estherville. He was a member of several fraternal organizations and in his young manhood had united with the English Lutheran church. He was a faithful husband and father and a kind and generous friend and physician who bore his own pain uncomplaining and died in the .... ..expressed a wish to do.

Dr. J. B. Tedrow Dies Suddenly
Well Known Williams Physician Dies Several Hours After Suffering a Stroke of Paralysis.
Lived There nearly 32 years
Had Been in Poor Health for Some Time but had not been confined to bed.
Williams, Iowa, March 4. -Dr. J. B. Tedrow, pioneer physician of this town, died at his home at 9:42 this morning. Death came unexpectedly, following a stroke of paralysis suffered this morning at 5 o’clock.
Dr. Tedrow came to Williams in the fall of 1886 and hence, had been here nearly 32 years. He leaves his wife and one son, Claire, who is cashier of the State Bank at Estherville. He was 52 years of age.
Dr. Tedrow was one of the best known physicians in Hamilton county and held the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He had been in poor health for several years, suffering from Bright’s disease, but had not been bedfast and Saturday was about his business as usual and made a professional call in the country.
