Sock Anderson Dies at 88

Sock Anderson, 88, longtime resident of Hamilton county, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient the past five days.

He had been in failing health the past several years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Rose Grove Lutheran church near Williams with the Rev. Benjamin Ostrem of Tama officiating. Burial will be made in the Liberty Center cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Thursday when it will be taken to the church.

Sock Anderson, son of Erick and Rachel Hill Anderson, was born Aug. 15, 1876, at Rochelle, Ill. He attended schools there and moved with his parents, at the age of 12, to a farm in Liberty township, Hamilton county. He attended the Liberty Center school.

He was united in marriage Dec. 22, 1903, to Bertha Nerbo, and with the exception of two years when they resided on a farm near Swea City they had always lived on a farm in Liberty township.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nov. 16, 1962. The past year and a half he had resided at the Jewell Rest Home.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Selmer Anderson, in 1919, and Thomas Anderson in 1953; his parents; 10 brothers and one-half brother.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Obed (Ruth) Hall of Williams, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Anderson was baptized in the Rochelle Lutheran church and was a charter member of the Rose Grove Lutheran church.
