Nina Nelson Gallardo, 72, died peacefully at home on April 10, 2008. Mrs. Gallardo was born on a farm near Jewell, Iowa in Hamilton county to Thelma and Nels Nelson. She attended Ellsworth schools and graduated from Drake University. Nina was a member of the Phi Gamma Nu Business Sorority while at Drake. She retired after 35 years with Aetna Life and Casualty as a human resources coordinator. Nina was very proud of her ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War at the Battle of Brandywine. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Frank, whom she was married to for 43 years and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family will greet friends at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th St. in Des Moines from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14th, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown on Tuesday, April 15th. A reception will be held at the American Legion on 100 E. Jackson St. in Des Moines, with burial following at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell, Iowa.
