Webster City Freeman Journal, June 21, 2007

Donald William Mickelson, 81, long time Duncombe area resident, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2007 at the Washington Lutheran Church, Duncombe with Reverends Paul Stone and James Juehls officiating. Burial will be in Washington Lutheran Cemetery south of Duncombe. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the Gunderson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Visitation will also be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service Friday at Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe.

He was born in Duncombe, Iowa on September 2, 1925 to Serena Anderson Mickelson and Clifford Mickelson. Don grew up on the family farm and attended Duncombe School. On May 23, 1948, he married Betty Koester. Don farmed with his children, dad and brothers. Upon retirement he enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a life-long passion for gardening and fishing. Don was a member of the Washington Lutheran Church of Duncombe.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Duncombe, his children Brian and Debbie Mickelson of Vincent, George and Galene Groves of Kamrar, Gary Mickelson of Palm Desert, California, and Kenyon and Debbie Hinrichs of Duncombe.

Grandchildren, Nicole and Jason Hoag, April and Jon Mason and Chad Mickelson. Nicolas Groves, Samantha Groves, Danielle and Matt Dunham, and Melanie Hinrichs; great-grandchildren, Alison and Cameron Hoag, Chase, Caden and Cohen Mason and Madelynn Dunham. His brothers and sister-in-law, Paul and Patsy Mickelson, Lehigh, Leonard and Norma Mickelson, Duncombe, Mary Lou Mickelson, Duncombe, Shirley Mickelson, Cedar Rapids, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Selmer, Robert, Richard and sister-in-law Norma Mickelson and infant sister Marlene.
