John E. Sprugel, 81, of Liberty, Mo., passed away Friday, August 17, at Liberty Hospital. Visitation with the family will be on Monday evening, August 20, from 5-7 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church. Services will be held at Liberty United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 21, at 10 a.m.

John was born Oct. 24, 1925, in Williams, Iowa. He was one of six children of George and Frances Sprugel, and attended school in Williams, graduating in 1943. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific in World War II. He enrolled at Iowa State University, graduating in 1950 with degrees in Agronomy, Animal Science, and Agricultural Education. He taught Vocational Agriculture for 11 years, before joining Farmland Industries in Kansas City, Mo., in 1961. He was employed by Farmland Industries for 27 years.

Survivors include his wife Lovice of Liberty, Mo.; a daughter, Lynne Sprugel of Katy (Houston), Texas; a son, John Mark(Karen) Sprugel and grandsons Ryan John and Drew Christopher Sprugel, Liberty, Mo.; two sisters, Martha Thompson, Johnston, IA, Myrtle Hollingsworth of Grimes,IA, and 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Mark John Sprugel in 1963, his parents, two brothers, Dr. George Sprugel and Dr. Charles Sprugel and sister Alice Ose.
