Paul R. Shupe - 75, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, August 17, 2007 at Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21st at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Matthew Martens officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Chariton Memorial Park Cemetery, Chariton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.

Surviving is his wife La Dora; children, Dan Shupe, Lora Kramer and her husband Marvin of Steamboat Rock, IA, Debra Shupe of Fort Dodge, Will Shupe and his wife Cheryl of Charlotte, NC, Sherry McClaskie of Maryville, OH; grandchildren, Kate, Emily, and Ben Shupe, Jill Kramer, Kris Hoskinson, B. J. McClaskie; great-granddaughter, Nola; sisters Irene Cantwell of Circleville, OH and Betty Marshall of Burlington, IA. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Laura (Edwards) Shupe, and brothers, Niles, Norval and Russell.

Paul R. Shupe was born May 31, 1932 in Lacona, Iowa. In 1950 he graduated from Chariton High School. He then attended Iowa State University on a football scholarship until 1953 when he went into the Army. He was stationed in Japan, serving during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1955. Paul then continued his education and graduated from Iowa State University in 1957. On May 26, 1956 he was united in marriage to La Dora Wilder in Harrison, AR. In 1957 they established their home in Webster City where Paul taught Biology and coached the Sophomore Basketball and football teams from 1957 to 1961. From 1961 to 1971 he coached Junior College Basketball. In 1968 he received his Masters Degree from NE Missouri State College. In 1972, the couple moved to Fort Dodge. Paul worked for Iowa Central Community College for 25 years. For 23 years he coached Football, Baseball, Golf, and served as the Athletic Director, and retired in 1994 as the Department Head of the Physical Education Program. In 1989 he was inducted in the Hall of Fame C Club in Chariton, Iowa. In 2000 he was inducted in the National Junior College Coaches Hall of Fame. He was the fourth winningest Junior College Coach (155-62-4) in the nation and won one National Junior College Championship. At the time of his death, he was employed at Lakeside Golf Course.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be left to Grace Lutheran Church, Trinity Hospice, or the Paul Shupe Endowment Fund at Iowa Central Community College.
