Chris L. Vespested, 95, of Webster City, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Southfield Wellness Community. Funeral

services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bill Van Nostrand officiating. A private burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, south of Jewell.

Chris Luther Vespestad, son of Lars and Karen Eide Vespested was born July 30, 1911 on a farm north of Slater, Iowa. He received his education at Slater. On August 22,

1931, he married Florence Henderson at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Ellsworth. The couple farmed in the Ellsworth andJewell areas. The couple retired in 1976, then in February of 1988, moved to Webster City. Mrs. Vespestad died June 25, 1988.

Chris is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Faye Arends of Gilbert; Miriam and Robert Peter of Stanhope; son and daughter-in-law, Carroll and Charlotte Vespested of Rapid City, SD; granddaughter and her husband, Diane and Wayde Klingbeil of Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Katie and Tyler Klingbeil of Gilbert; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elmer, Matt, Gerhardt, and Nels Vespested; sisters, Martha Roe, Elizabeth Vespestad and Kathrryn Gordon; also a brother in infancy.

Chris was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1988; a former member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church at Jewell where he served as a trustee, choir member and building committee member. He was a former board member of the Jewell Cooperative. He enjoyed fishing, helping others and church volunteer work, especially the newsletter.
