Edna Hegland, 88, of Story City died September 1, 2008 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be Thursday September 4, 2008 at 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

Edna was born on March 24, 1920 in Hamilton county to Harm and Grace (Ubben) Denekas. She married Belmont Hegland on August 19, 1940. He died November 23, 1997. She and Belmont farmed near Radcliffe and Stanhope before moving to Story City in 1984. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Evelyn Denekas of Jewell and many nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Walter, Robert, Martin, Leo and an infant brother and six sisters, Tillie Olsen, Grace Coffman, Dena Fryburger, Jennie Swenson, Edith Jacobson and Marie Hetland.

Memorials may be made to Israel Family Hospice House or Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Soderstrum Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
