Obituary of Peter Henderson

Peter Henderson, son of Christian and Dorothy Henderson, was born October 6,1896, on a farm six miles north of Roland, and passed away February 9, 1963, at the Story City Hospital. He was 66 years, four months and three days old.

Mr. Henderson was married to Leonora Erickson on February 16, 1916, in Des Moines, Iowa. Six daughters were born to this union. They are Mrs. Pearl Brekke of Union, Mrs. Norma Wirtz of Ames, Mrs. Lucille Lillard of Collins, Mrs. Alice Pickering of Roland and Mrs. Pauline Thomas of Collins, and Alta Dorothy, deceased.

Mr. Henderson farmed in this area and in Minnesota for about 20 years. He was employed for ten years with the Ames In Cross Hatchery and two years at Younkers in Ames. He retired in October, 1961.

He is survived by his wife, Leonora, and five daughters. Also aurviving are four brothers, two sisters, 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, at the Soderstrum Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m. and from Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg at 2:00, with Pastor Perry Heller officiating. Music was provided by Orris J. Osheim, who sang, "Under His Wings" and My God and I" accompanied by Mrs. Carroll Lura at the organ.

Pallbearers were Willie Wicks, Ed Nerem, Ted Sampson, Wesley Springer, John Holland and Holver Norem. Interment was in the McCallsburg Cemetery.
