Ann Pierce, 88, of Webster City, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Webster City, with Rev. Mike Kroona officiating. Burial will be in the St. Olaf Cemetery north of Clarion. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Anna Erdman daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Groh Erdman was born on April 3, 1920 at Kanawha, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Belmond. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Belmond and received her education there. On July 2, 1939, Ann married Merlin Luverne Hanson at Blue Earth, Minnesota. The couple moved to Webster City where they joined Trinity Lutheran Church. To this union, four children were born. Ann and Merlin operated Bowlmar Bowling Alley in Webster City. Ann helped her husband doing the janitor and check out counter work. The couple sold the bowling alley and purchased a grocery store that they named Hanson’s South End Grocery. It was located at 1815 Superior Street in Webster City. Following Merlin’s death on May 26, 1973, Ann sold the grocery store and worked for 4 years at Briggs Woods Golf Course. On July 1, 1989, Ann married Merrill Pierce at Trinity Lutheran Church at Webster City. Merrill died on October 23, 1999.

Ann is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Marty and Debbie Hanson of Webster City, Mark and Jackie Hanson of Ankeny; grandchildren, Holly Hanson Irvin, Matthew Hanson, Nate Hanson, Alex Hanson, Scott Halverson, Todd Halverson, Reid Halverson; two great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Pringnitz and Minnie Johnson both of Belmond; son-in-law, Steve Pfaffenbach of Vincent and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Jean Ann Hanson Flohr and Connie Sue Hanson Pfaffenbach; grandson, Trent Halverson; sisters, Betty Faulkner, Hilda Lee, Mollie Kalkwarf and brother, Harold Erdman.

Ann was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City. Her hobbies included playing cards, photography and painting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
