Delbert Jahncke, 74, of Webster City, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Travis Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service on Friday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191. Arrangements were made through Foster Funeral Home.
Delbert John Jahncke, son of Harry and Helen Carstedt Jahncke, was born May 15, 1929 at Oelwein, Iowa. He moved with his parents to Webster City in 1935. He received his education in the Webster City schools, graduating from Lincoln High in 1947. He attended A.I.B. at Des Moines and also attended a welding school in Ohio. He served with the U.S. Army in Ordinance in the Pacific Theatre for 2 years and in the U.S. Army Reserves for 4 years. Following his discharge, he returned to Webster City. In 1950, he purchased Jahncke Welding from his father, which he operated until his retirement in May of 1991. He continued to work part time with the new owner, Jack Roe, for a few years.
Delbert is survived by cousins, Donna Fredericksen of Webster City; Harry Karnes of Washington, Ia.; Mark Gleffe of Rocklin, Ca.; Mildred Karnes of Davenport; Walter Gleffe, Jr. of Winchester, Ky.; several second cousins.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he had held numerous church operation positions. He was a 50 year member and past commander of American Legion Post # 191. He enjoyed Hamilton County Racing and watching various sports events. He was also an avid Hawkeye fan.
