Carter A. Johnson, 58, of Webster City, died Monday, February 2, 2004, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home, with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Lutheran Cemetery, south of Duncombe at a later date. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service on Thursday.
Carter Albert Johnson, son of Joseph and Muriel Brownfield Johnson, was born Sept.18, 1945 at Webster City. He received his education at a rural school northwest of Webster City and the Webster City School System, graduating in 1963. In August of 1965, he married Helen Marie Green at Fort Dodge. They later divorced. He started farming with his father on the family farm, then farmed with his brother, Dean as the Johnson Bros. Farm. Dean moved to Hawaii and Carter continued the farming operation until 1998. On June 8, 1985, he married Jean Scott Tarbill at Twin Lakes. They later divorced. He was co-owner of J & C Construction. In December of 2003, he retired because of failing health.
Carter is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Tim Bergman of Stratford; Julie and Chris Kudron of Bolingbrook. Il.; son, Jamie Johnson and special friend, Heather Kolacia, both of Fort Dodge; step-children, Cathy and Craig Groves of Webster City; 12 grandchildren; special companion, Carla Welch of Webster City; his parents, Joe and Patricia Johnson of Ames; Muriel and J.D. Stark of Palm Desert, Ca.; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Roma Johnson of Kailua-Kona, Hi.; sisters, Ashley Lewis and Amber Johnson, both of Palm Desert; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Johnson in 2000.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. His winter projects included building furniture and special items for his family.
The family prefers no flowers.
