Freda M. Hershey, 77, Stanhope, formerly of Boone, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at the Schroeder ~ Walter Funeral Home, Fifth & Story Streets in Boone. Rev. Suzie Moore will officiate. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Freda was born on Jan. 28, 1930 in Tecumseh, Neb., the daughter of Leonard and Nettie (Cowden) Albers. She graduated from Tecumseh High School in Tecumseh, Neb. in 1947. Freda attended the Nebraska State Teachers College in Peru, Nebraska for 2 years, receiving her Teacher’s certificate. She then started teaching at Braton Union School in Braton, Neb., with the 1st thru 8th grades, and then taught in other schools in Nebraska over the years. She and her husband then moved to Boone around 1950, where she was a homemaker.

Freda married DeVan Clarence Hershey on May 27, 1951 in Vesta, Neb. Around 1954, the couple moved to Griswold from Nebraska, then lived in Boone for over 35 years, then moved to Stanhope in 1990 where they have resided.

She was a member of the Stanhope Parish in Stanhope. Freda served as a hospice volunteer in Boone. She also enjoyed listening to the Rovers Band of Boone, walking with her friends, playing the organ, and playing bingo, and Yahtzee with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Freda is survived by her husband, DeVan Hershey of Stanhope; her son, Victor L. Hershey and his wife, Kimberly of Nevada; her step-son, Dustin Baker and step-daughter, Lacey Baker; 2 grandchildren, Valarie Moore and her husband Gabriel of Perry and Charles “Chuck” Hershey and his wife Kim of Polk City; 5 great grandchildren, Taylor Moore, Austin Moore, Jayden Moore, Noah Moore and Elijah Moore all of Perry; 3 step great grandchildren, Jerimiah Baker, Isaiah Baker and Austin Baker: her brother Keith Albers and his wife, Zola of Red Cloud, Nebraska; 3 nephews Barry, Bryan, Danny Albers and 1 great niece. Freda is preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Van Lee (a twin to Victor).
