Ella Margurette Ludwig, 90, Webster City, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at Southfield Wellness Community. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Carter officiating. Burial will be at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Cemetery east of Sigourney. Visitation will be Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home.
Ella Margurette Pipes, daughter of Loama and Louise Keck Pipes, was born Jan. 24, 1913 at Chicago, Ill. She received her education at Harper, Iowa. Ella joined the circus as a young lady in 1930. She continued with the circus until 1931. Ella married Joseph Clifford Ludwig on Dec, 23, 1932 at Lancaster, Mo. She had resided in the communities of Eldon, Red Oak, Winterset, Iowa City and Webster City. While residing in Iowa City, she worked in the kitchen of Mercy Hospital, as a baker at Currier Hall at the University of Iowa. Mr. Ludwig died on Oct. 10, 1974. In 1980, she moved to Webster City.
Ella is survived by her son and daughters-in-law, Clifford Don and Patricia Ludwig of Webster City, Nancy Ludwig of Selma; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandsons; three great-great-grandchildren; one step great-great-granddaughter; one niece and one nephew.
In addition to her husband, Clifford, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard "Rick" Ludwig; great-granddaughter, Heather Heemsbergen, great-great-granddaughter, Madison Toftee; brother Elmer Pipes; and her parents.
Ella was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Webster City, the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program and the Royal Neighbors of America. She enjoyed going to dances and playing bingo.
