Lyle Berven, 87, of Webster City, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at the Mercy Medical Center at Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Revs. John Grebner and Doug Tiffany officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191.
Lyle George Berven, son of Severt and Frankie Blue Berven, was born Sept. 6, 1916 on a farm south of Kamrar. He received his education at Kamrar, graduating in 1934. He started employment at Beams Manufacturing (Electrolux). On June 6, 1936, he married Viola Smith at Tarkio, Mo. In October of 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on a P.T. boat. Following his discharge, the couple operated a grocery store at Kamrar.
In 1949, they started farming south of Kamrar on his parents farm. They moved to Webster City in 2000.
Mr. Berven is survived by his wife, Viola; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kolleen Berven of Webster City; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Joe Slauson of Alden; grandchildren, Roy and Gus Berven, Kyle Kain, Jennifer Holden, Jeannine Kuiper, Julie Gordon and Jon Slauson; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Boyd Berven of Webster City; Stanley Berven of Abilene, Ks.; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Wilson.
His memberships include: Trinity Lutheran Church; charter member of the Kamrar Lions Club and past president; Northeast Hamilton School Board and past president; American Legion Post # 191 of Webster City.
