LuVerne Petersen, daughter of Detlef and Meta Joachimsen Vinke, was born Dec. 11, 1919, on the family farm in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa.
Verne enjoyed bowling, fishing, baking, growing African violets, playing cards, playing bingo, Charlie Pride concerts, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, Verne died at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa, following a brief battle with cancer.
She is survived by her loving husband, Pete Petersen, Mason City; four children, Pat and husband Bill Burt, Webster City, Judith and husband Stephan Bishop of Scranton, Donna and husband Bernie Seaman Jr., Canyon Country, Calif., and Robert Killeen and wife Robyn of Audubon; stepdaughter, Victoria and husband Terry Garnes of Coon Rapids; Aahrn and husband Reid Keller, plus 12 more grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois and her husband Floyd Drake, Audubon; sisters-in-law, Odessa Vinke and Loretta Vinke, both of Manning; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services in loving memory of LuVerne will be held at Mason City, 326 4th St., N.E., on Wednesday, August 13, 2 p.m.
