Wilda A. Teig

Wilda A. Teig, 82, of Stanhope, died Friday, May 23, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope. Rev. Mike Herschberger and Joe Lambert officiated. Burial took place in the Lawn Hill Cemetery southeast of Stanhope. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home in Webster City, and after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

Born Wilda Alice Schumaker on February 25, 1926 in Webster City, she was the daughter of Fred and June Berryhill Schumaker. She was baptized at the Church of Christ also in Webster City. She graduated from Webster City Lincoln High School in 1942 at the age of 16. She attended Elkader Junior College and received her education and graduated from Kahler Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. During WW II, she served our Country as a nurse in the United States Army Nurse Cadet Corps, where she served both in Chicago, IL, and in Worthington, MN. She worked as a Registered Nurse in San Francisco, and then moved to Iowa where she was on staff at Hamilton County Hospital and eventually worked as a nurse for general practitioner Dr. DeWayne Anderson, M.D. for several years. Later, she worked as a Supervisory R.N. at Bethany Manor for more than 14 years until her retirement. On January 15, 1950 she married Tilford John Teig in Webster City. The couple resided on the family farm near Stanhope.

In addition to her loving husband Tilford, she is survived by her sons and daughers-in-law, Russell and Sandy Teig of Jewell; John and Dawn Teig of Elkart; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tom Conley of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Lindsay, Dustin, Amanda, Alison and Nicholas Teig; brothers and sister-in-law, Wilber and Eleanor Schumaker of Webster City; Gilbert Schumaker of Boise, ID; and many nieces and nephews. Wilda was preceded in death by her parents.

She has been an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope since 1950. She was a longtime, active member of the Republican Party. Her memberships also included, being a 58 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Wilda enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, cooking, and especially writing. Wilda was truly an extraordinary woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
