Robert W. Koop, 79, Kansas City, Mo., died Friday, May 30, 2008 at North KC Medical Center. Funeral services were held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo. With interment at Mount Washington Forever Cemetery in Independence, Mo.

He was born April 19, 1929 at Jewell, IA to William J. Koop and Ida (Zeihan) Koop. Robert graduated from Jewell High School with the class of 1947. On May 3, 1954, he married Meredith Nadine McGinnis of Pineville, Ark. at Mountain Home, Ark. The family moved to Kansas City, Mo. Where Mr. Koop lived until his death.

Mr. Koop was preceded in death by his wife Meredith in 1997. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William J. Koop Jr. who died in 1966, his father William J. Koop Sr. who died in 1971, and his mother, Ida (Zeihan) Koop who died in 1998.

Robert was a member of Holy Cross Church in Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of American Legion Post #21 in Independence, Mo. He was a man who loved both old Fords and Mercury’s and belonged to several area car clubs. Robert retired after 30 years with Sears Roebuck where he was a service manager. Robert was discharged from the U.S. Army on Feb.11, 1953, where he was stationed at Camp Carson, Colo., with Btry A of the 547th Armd FA Bn.

He is survived by his son Dennis Michael Koop and wife Carla of Independence, Mo., three daughters, Rebecca Ann Koop, Kansas City, Mo., Kathleen Kay Lindsey and husband Edward of Weston, Mo., and Teresa Annette Weems and husband Richard of Kansas City, Mo., and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Richard and wife Sigrig and three nephews, Michael Koop of Independence, Mo., Steven Koop of Reston, Va., and William J. Koop of Alisa Viejo, Calif.
