Leona Emmons

Leona Emmons, age 78, of Jewell, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in De Moines from complications following heart surgery. the funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 17 at the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

Leona Beatrice James was born in Guthrie Center on January 19, 1920 to Clarence and Edith May (Gustin) James. She attended school in Guthrie Center. On October 25, 1936, she married Gail Harland Emmons in Guthrie Center. They moved to Ellsworth from Renwick in 1951, then came to Jewell in 1957. Leona worked for Bourns in Ames until she retired.

Leona is survived by one son -- Denton Emmons and his wife Barbara of Kamrar; three daughters -- Zeda Randolph and her husband Dennis of Romoland, CA, Reda Amundson and her husband Harold of Zearing, and Judy Barkema and her husbnad Wally of Jewell; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters -- Pauline Randolph of Hemet, CA, and Eveline Kecy of Guthrie Center, IA. Leona was preceded in death by her husband -- Gail, a sister - Ila Jean Byrnes and a brother -- Dale James and a son-in-law -- Milford Olson.

Becker Funeral Home in Jewell was in charge of arrangements.
