Death of Mrs. J. C. Buckles

After an illness of nearly three years duration, Mrs. Jane Buckles passed away Monday of this week. She was one of the oldest residents of Hamlton County, and for several years past she has made her home in Jewell. About a month ago she was taken to the home of her son, Dan Buckles, north of Ellsworth.

Martha Jane Rinker was born March 21st, 1854, at Romley, West Virginia, and died at the home of her son, Dan Buckles, Monday morning, May 10th, 1926, at the age of 72 years, 1 month, and 19 days.

She left West Virginia with her parents when she was about nine years old, and came to Iowa and settled on a farm between Ellsworth and Jewell. After her marriage she moved to a farm north of Ellsworth, where she lived for about forty years, when she moved to Jewell.

She suffered a stroke of paralysis about three years ago and since that time has been an invalid, but often times she would say that she did not suffer. She was taken to the home of her son, Dan, about a month ago, where she passed away.

She was united in marriage to James Buckles, who died April 4, 1915. Mrs. Buckles was the mother of six children, four sons and two daughters. Both daughters, Delpha and Virdie, preceded the mother in death. The four surviving sons are: William of Jewell; Alva of Lakota, Iowa; Dan, of Ellsworth, and Ed. of Des Moines; a brother, George E. Rinker, of Ellsworth, with a host of relatives and friends, is also left to mourn her departure. Mrs. Buckles was a member of the Methodist Church.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon of this week, at the Dan Buckles home at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. M. B. Phillips, pastor of the Federated Church in Jewell. She was laid to rest in Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth. The four sons, A. W. Knox and George Young acted as pallbearers.
The sincerest sympathy of the entire community is extended to the sorrowing children.
