James Buckles Died Saturday

After a quite long sickness of kidney trouble, Mr. James Buckles passed away at 2:30 O'clock last Saturday, April 10th, at his home in Jewell. Burial services were held Tuesday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock, from the home, conducted by the pastor of the Methodist Church, Rev. Whitlock, and the body was laid at rest in the family burial plot in the Loncoln township cemetery near Ellsworth. The funeral services were attended by a large crowd of friends and neighbors of the deceased, and floral tributes to his memory were both many and beautiful.

James Christian Buckles was born at Harpers Ferry, W. Virginia, November 3, 1948, a son of James Buckles and Margaret Knox Buckles. Both parents died when he was a small child and his grandparents, the father and mother of Robert F. Knox, took him and he grew to manhood with them, at Sommerfield, Madison County, Ohio. He came to Hamilton County, Iowa, in June 1870, and was married April 3, 1872, to Miss Martha Rinker. He farmed the G. M. Everett place between Jewell and Ellsworth until two years ago when he moved to Jewell. He died in Jewell April 10, 1915, aged 66 years, 5 months and 7 days.

He is survived by his wife and four sons, William, Albert, Daniel, and Edward all of whom live near Jewell and Ellsworth. Two daughters have died, Adelphi Pierson, who died June 29, 1897, aged 23, and Virdi Young, who died Jan. 1, 1908, aged 26 years.

He was one of the hardy and industrious pioneers who helped develop this prairie land and was a kind and affectionate husband and father, a good neighbor and citizen, and one whom all loved and respected. The Record joins with the many friends of the sorrowing family in extending sympathy in their hour of bereavement.

Card of Thanks
