Robert F. Imlay

Robert E. Imlay, age 79, of Jewell, died Tuesday, December 26th, 1995 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 29th, 1995 at the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell, with Rev. H. Dean Stille officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Friends called Thursday, December 28th at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell with the family present from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Robert E. Imlay was born September 27, 1916 in Jewell to William Robert and Annie Tina (Nelson) Imlay. He was a 1935 graduate of Jewell High School. On April 13, 1940, Robert married Byrdie J. Berg at the United Church of Christ in Osceola, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. After the war, he returned to the Jewell area where he worked in the construction business for several years. He then owned and operated service stations in Jewell for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell and the American Legion.

Robert is survived by his wife - Byrdie of Jewell; a daughter - Judi Hollander of Bowling Green, Kentucky; a son - Ronald Imlay of Jewell; three grandchildren - Michael Day of Grimes, Adam Day of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Dealynn Day serving in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Italy; one great-grandson - Nicholas Day of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and a sister-in-law - Leota Imlay of Jewell. He was preceded in death by his parents, three children - Jerry Robert Imlay, John Roger Imlay and Susan Dunahoo, two brothers - Harry Imlay and John Reese, Sr., and a sister - Minnie Johnston.
