Ralph Golden

Ralph Golden, age 88, of rural Jewell, died Sunday at his home. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 1998 at the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell with the Rev. David Goodfellow officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

Ralph Holmes Golden was born August 14, 1909 in Elgin, Illinois to Aaron and Gertrude Mae (Uline) Golden. He grew up in Guthrie County near Bayard, Iowa. He attended country schools and Bayard High School. On October 29, 1926 Ralph married Thelma Pauline Hall in Denison, Iowa. They moved to the Ellsworth area where they helped farm with Ralph's parents. They farmed in Bayard and Gilbert prior to moving to their farm north and west of Jewell in 1955. Ralph was a member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell.

Ralph is survived by his wife - Thelma of Jewell; his daughter - Peggy Johnston of Jewell; his son - John Golden of Jewell; six grandchildren - Steven Johnston, Mike Johnston, John C. Golden, Jennifer Ewing, Peter Illian, and Kristin Illian; and eight great-grandchildren - Michelle, Krystina, Aaron, and Staci Golden; Jason and Elizabeth Ewing; Emily and Allison Johnston. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son - Roy; a great-grandson - Steven Ewing; three brothers - Gilbert, Maurice, and Richard Golden; and a sister - Mildred Hume.

Becker Funeral Home of Jewell was in charge of arrangements.
