Leota Imlay

Leota Fern (Harrah) Imlay, age 82, a former Jewell resident, died on Monday, October 14, 2002, at the Hubbard Care Center Inc. in Hubbard, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard with Rev. Ron Ridgway officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. The family will receive friends at Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard on Wednesday, October 16, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made c/o Rev. Harry Imlay, 2935 Franklin Ave., Eagle Grove, Iowa 50533.

Leota Fern (Harrah) Imlay was born on May 11, 1920 to Albert C. and Iva E. (Elliott) Harrah at Williams, Iowa. She lived in Williams and Iowa Falls and completed her schooling - as she finished the 10th grade and later in Jewell she obtained her G.E.D.

On July 25, 1936 Leota married Harry P. Imlay in Webster City. they then moved to Jewell. She was a member of Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell where she was involved in teaching Sunday School and the women's group. Later she joined Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard and was a member of the quilting group there.

Ill health forced her to move to the Hubbard Care Center in December, 2000.

Leota is survived by her son Harry and his wife, Lois, of Eagle Grove; two daughters, Harriett and her husband, Frank Howard, of Portland, Oregon and Joyce and her husband, Luke Frazier, of Sopchoppy, Florida; eleven grandchildren; a brother Richard and his wife, Velma Harrah, of Houston, Missouri; a sister Juanita of Sonoma, California; a sister-in-law, Byrdie Imlay of Jewell.

Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her parents and ten brothers and sisters.
