Mabel Bonner

Mabel Blanche Fife Bonner, age 104, of Jewell, died Saturday, October 12, 2002 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2002 at Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell with Rev. Dean Stille to officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Federated United Church of Christ or the Bonner Scholarship Fund at South Hamilton School. Becker Funeral Home in Jewell is in charge of arrangements.

Mabel was born December 18, 1897 in Paullina, Iowa to William Christopher and Ophelia (Philp) Fife. She grew up on a farm near Paullina with a brother and sister. She attended country school and graduated from Paullina High School in 1915. She attended Buena Vista College and graduated from Iowa State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority and the Mortar Board academic society. Mabel taught school in LeMars, Primghar and Dayton. On August 1, 1923 Mabel married John Craft Bonner in Dows. She was an active member of Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell. She served on the church building committee when the church was built. Mabel was a 75 year member of PEO, serving as a past president. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Study Club. Mabel enjoyed traveling.

Mabel is survived by a daughter, Janet Bonner (and husband, Joseph DiSessa) of Boston, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, John Robert Mohr (Lyn), James Frederick Mohr (Jane), and Julie Ann Mohr; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan Mohr (Brenda), Chandelle Mohr Boeke (Kory), Joanna Mohr and Jack Mohr. Her parents; her husband, John in 1955; a daughter, Joan Mohr; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Emma Fife preceded Mabel in death.
