Elton W. Huisman

Elton W. Huisman, 65, Webster City, a former Kamrar resident, died Friday, Aug. 7, at the Hamilton County Public Hospital. Services were held August 10, at the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg with the Rev. Ian Hoover officiating. Burial was in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, east of Kamrar, with flagfolding services conducted by the American Legion Post No. 550 of Jewell. Foster Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Elton Williams Huisman, son of William and Lena (Greenfield) Huisman, was born Jan. 21, 1927 on a farm southeast of Kamrar. He attended rural schools in Lyon township, Hamilton County. In 1940, he moved with his parents to a farm near Titonka.

On Dec. 18, 1945, he married Harmina Gelder at Titonka. He served with the U.S. Army in 1945-46, returning to Titonka where the couple farmed until 1952 when they moved back to Hamilton County. He was employed at COOP elevators at Ellsworth, Jewell, Randall and Kamrar, retiring in 1969 due to failing health. He had been a resident of Southfield Care Center in Webster City since January of 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Harmina of Jewell; sons, Arvid of Creston, Gerald of Webster City, David and Paul, both of Jewell; daughters, Shirley Nelson of Blairsburg, Trudy Huisman of Omaha, Neb., 11 grandchildren; sisters, DeLoris Schaa and Marjorie Pannkuk, both of Webster City; brothers, Floyd of Viola, Wis.; Sterling of Albert Lea, Minn.; and Ronald of Hot Springs, Ark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son in infancy and one brother in infancy.

He was a member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg.
