Esther Sickenger

Esther Viola Sickenger, age 97, of Webster City, died Monday, February 24, 2003 at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 28, 2003 at Bethesda Lutheran church in Jewell with Rev. Mary Dooley officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. A memorial fund has been established, gifts may be sent to Esther's daughter, Cindy Havinga at 2066-250th St. in Webster City, 50595.

Esther was born April 27, 1905 in Ellsworth, Iowa to Albert and Lena (Williams) Knutson. She grew up in Ellsworth, graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1923. On September 17, 1924 Esther married Charles Virgil Sickenger in Ellsworth. They made their home in Jewell where they owned and operated two restaurants. Esther also worked at the Turkey Plant in Ellsworth and at the Gem Cafe until she retired. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aide. She had also been a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.

Esther enjoyed baking and watching and feeding birds. She loved to spend time with her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her!

Esther is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Robert Price of Costa Mesa, California, a daughter-in-law, LaRita Sickenger of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Jon Havinga of Webster City, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles in 1970, two sons, Larry and Dean, a sister, Ellen Severson, and 5 brothers, Manley, Omer, Ervin, Art, and Myron.
